Cultural Currents is a multi-format exhibition and storytelling initiative by the Red River Cultural District that celebrates, preserves, and promotes the neighborhood’s rich musical heritage, cultural traditions, and century-deep history. Developed in partnership with the Downtown Austin Alliance, the project is grounded in extensive research and documentation of the district’s evolution – from its early cultural roots shaped by German immigrants and Black entrepreneurs to its emergence as one of Austin’s most vital centers for live music and creative expression.
Working with team members API Productions (Richard Whymark and Greg Beets) and Acacia Heritage Consultants, Limbacher & Godfrey led historical research efforts for the Cultural Currents initiative. View the storymap here:
