Castleman-Bull House

Austin, Texas, 2019

One of the oldest and most substantial 19th century houses in Austin, it is fine example of High Victorian Italianate style. It was built in 1873 by Civil War veteran and prominent Austin merchant, C. M. Castleman. To make way for a church expansion, it was moved to its current site in 2001, and has been vacant since the move.

Limbacher & Godfrey completed an exterior restoration in 2019 that included new landscape and accessibility upgrades as well as structural repairs, masonry restoration, wood window and door restoration and new lighting.

The firm is currently studying options for the building’s occupation and use. The study will consider various uses for the building and will account for opportunities presented by its proximity to Waller Creek, the Trask House and historic Palm Park. The study will include a public engagement process to help identify stakeholders and to learn public sentiment that may give shape to proposed planning options.

The Castleman-Bull House is operated by the Austin Convention Center.
