About
LIMBACHER & GODFREY Architects is an award-winning architecture, planning
and historic preservation firm created by Laurie Limbacher and Alfred Godfrey, who
together bring over 80 years of experience to their projects. The firm was begun in 1995
and has worked on public projects of iconic significance as well as buildings and settings
of historic importance throughout Texas.
The firm recently completed the award-winning work on the Historic Austin Federal
Courthouse. The building was sold to Travis County for use as a Probate Court. As part
of a multi-disciplinary team, LGA lead the $26 million effort during the programming
and the schematic design phases, and continued in a senior advisory capacity through to
project completion. The project required coordination with the State Historic Preservation
Office and the National Park Service. The Historic Austin Federal Courthouse is on
the National Register of Historic Places.
Working closely with the Texas Historical Commission, the firm is currently engaged on
the restoration of the 1923 Willacy County Courthouse.
The firm is also working on the rehabilitation of two iconic, historic architectural assets
in Zilker Park: the Barton Springs Pool Bathhouse and the Zilker Clubhouse. The project
goal for the Bathhouse is to provide a first-class experience for users that addresses
substantial growth in user demand while also respecting the historic integrity of the
place. The project will contain a significant interpretation/ education component. The
project goal for the Clubhouse is to enhance and modernize functions of a beloved,
historic, going-concern event venue. Their work includes the significant addition of
outdoor event amenities. Both the Bathhouse and the Clubhouse are contributing structures
of a National Register of Historic Places District.
Limbacher and Godfrey are a proven leaders for historic preservation, park planning
and urban design issues in Texas.
